last post of '09.

I know theres over a week left in '09 and ill probably post again, but just in case i dont i wanted to make a list of cool things i read/heard/watched in 2009. But first a quick introduction to a manga series i recently restarted. I began this series over a year ago and stopped for some unkwon reason. Now i hope to complete it in 2010.

Drifting classroom is a manga series from the 70's written and illustrated by Kazuo Umezu. It is a classic series of horror manga that focuses on japanese elementary school students after their school is teleported to a barren and deadly wasteland. great for fans of manga, horror and fantasy.

Young Liars

Young Liars is a recently discontinued graphic novel series by my personal favorite writer/illustrator, David Lapham. I first began obsessing over Lapham's work with the series Stray Bullets which he wrote and illustrated and independently published the series with his wifes help. He had to stop due to lack of funds and he began working for mainstream publishers such as Vertigo. Young Liars, his first series published by Vertigo is basically if Gregg Araki made a comic book. Its got all of the appeals of Doom Generation and Nowhere, such as murder, sex, drugs, flashy costumes and aliens. Young Liars is a story revolving around a bunch of young party kids and the lies that make up our lives at this young age. Young Liars is a fantasy/noir/action/hero series about how nothing is real, life is heartbreak, no one understands and death is the only thing worth counting down towards.

BELOW is one of James Jean's covers for the graphic novel series Fables. Fables is a series I have been following for a few years now and even after 80+ issues it manages to enthrall me. The duo of Willingham and Buckingham have proven to be one of the most impressive writing/illustration teams of modern graphic novels. The story focuses on various characters from fantasy and folk tales passed down for centuries (including many characters created by the Brothers Grimm) as they live life in New York after being run out of their magical homelands by and evil emperor. Love, loss, longing, and every other aspect of life is beautifully portrayed in this absurd world of fantasy and magic.
